Producing Artist and Operatic tenor Nathan Granner works internationally as a solo and collaborative artist in the performance and visual art space. His buoyant yet elegant personality shines from the stage and his voice fills the hall with a beautiful, refined lyric timbre that hearkens back to tenors of the golden age of bel canto opera.
A Metropolitan Opera National Council Award winner, Granner’s career has been blessed with distinct variety. In addition to bowing as Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Ferrando (Cosí fan tutte), Payador (Maria de Buenos Aires) at companies such as Lyric Opera Kansas City, Opera Theater St. Louis, Polski Theatr (Szczecin, PL), he is a founding member of the Sony Masterworks recording group, The American Tenors and has most recently co-founded operatic duo Gulley/Granner.
He loves and champions new opera, recently creating roles in four short operas, one of which garnered his most interesting role to date as that of Kanye West.
Through these performances and further international collaborations in the medium of Opera, Concerts, Recorded Audio, Musical Theater and Performance Installation, Nathan has received critical acclaim from Opera News, Opera Now, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Washington Post, USA Today. He has been seen performing on CNN, MSNBC, E Hollywood Extra and heard on most of the classical radio stations in the United States.
The intense exploration of his voice and the elements of vocal music has taken Nathan from singing Opera to Tango, Flamenco and creating Pop-Jazz adventures. This fascination with the voice has even led him further to study Kargyraa (throat singing) with a Tibetan Monk. For some, this may seem a bit exotic, but for the contemporary artist, it is essential that a singer is prepared to interpret music in many different ways.
Granner is a veteran producing artist. He artistic directed and sang in a National PBS broadcast taping for American Masters and produced three national tours. His latest endeavors are creating immersive Classical Music installation art and recording two new record albums as operatic tenor duo Gulley/Granner. In his spare time, Nathan is also pursuing a Masters in Music at the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA.
